How to start?
From my past experience i have made these short guidelines:

• Identify the skills u have and u wanna work on
• Search for a freelance website
• Register will freelance website.
  

I am not a promoter of freelance website but still i am writing few to get you started

There are many more other website but i recommend these as i have worked and earned on these. You can search from any search engine like google, yahoo, hotmail, dogpile etc.

Risks/ threats to freelancing
There always been a risk factor involed in freelancing:

• Does not clearly understand the requirement and started the project. This may cause failure of the project and a bad feedback. If you have more than 3 or more failure projects freelance website may also BAN you.

• Freelance Website get closed: A biggest threat to the career of a freelancer is what if the freelance website gets closed. You can sue but all your money and your career may ends up or atleast it a big shook.
  

• Payment Method not known: Some people does not take care of payment method they keep on doing work and earning money. But they did not see first that payment method to their country is not mentioned. So always choose a payment method first. So you will be sure that the work you are doing you will get the money as well.

• Follow the rules and policy. It is always adviced not to make any voilation of company poclicy. You may be permanently BAN if you do not follow the rules and regulations.
  

So I end up my discussion in concluding that you must explore yourself and if you have any skills you can earn BIG money.
